ABS-CBN Dominates 3Q 2009 National TV Ratings

ABS-CBN dominated the national ratings and audience share in the third quarter of 2009, bringing consolidated airtime revenues to P10.68 billion in the first nine months of the year or a 5% improvement over last year.

In a press briefing held yesterday, Head of Corporate Planning and Investor Relations Charles Gamo disclosed that ABS-CBN earned P3.96 billion in airtime revenues from July to September or an average of P1.32 billion a month.

This increase, according to Gamo, is mainly attributed to ABS-CBN’s efforts to spice up its afternoon and primetime weekday programming with a combination of drama and comedy offerings.

On weekday afternoons, Mexican telenovela "Maria De Jesus," and the Precious Hearts Romances installment "Ang Lalaking Nagmahal Sa Akin" continued to cater to Kapamilya’s core viewers while "Banana Split: Daily Servings" brought fresh fun and laughter to a wider audience mix.

New drama programs "Katorse," "Lovers in Paris," and "Dahil May Isang Ikaw," on the other hand, bolstered ABS-CBN’s already strong weekday primetime line-up that includes "TV Patrol World," "Showbiz News Ngayon," and widely followed "May Bukas Pa."

According to the TNS National Urban Philippine TV ratings service for the third quarter, ABS-CBN kept its total day ratings at the 18-point level versus GMA7’s 13-14 points while its national total-day audience shares stayed at the 46-47 level, maintaining a double digit lead over GMA7 of at least 11 percentage points.

Meanwhile, primetime ratings of ABS-CBN stayed at the 30-points level with a 9-10 point lead against the rival network. Its primetime audience share also continues to remain at the 50-51 percentage-points level.

For October 2009, ABS-CBN has 17 of the top 20 programs nationwide, with all of its primetime launches in the third quarter – "Katorse," "Lovers in Paris," "Dahil May Isang Ikaw," and "Agimat: Ang Mga Alamat ni Ramon Revilla"– in the top 10 and all editions of the recently launched "Pinoy Big Brother Double Up" breaking into the top 20 list.

ABS-CBN’s primetime programs also held nine of the top ten slots for October 2009, led by "TV Patrol World," "May Bukas Pa," "Katorse," "Lovers in Paris" and "Maalaala Mo Kaya."

Amanda Colley Van Cooll Wins Survivor Philippines Palau

25 year-old Amanda Colley Van Cooll of Mindoro is the second ultimate sole survivor of Survivor Philippines.

Amanda outwitted, outplayed, and outlasted her fellow Finalists to bag the prestigious title of Pinoy Sole Survivor in the recently concluded edition of Survivor Philippines: Palau.

Amanda bested transsexual "Beauty Queen" Justine Ferrer and "Girl-Next-Door" Jef Gaitan based on the votes casted by the seven members of the jury.

During the merge, Amanda showed off her strength by winning individual immunity and reward challenges in succession.

To make it to the Final Three, Amanda beat Charles de Vera Fernandez in the tie-breaker face-off challenge during the tension-filled tribal council.

The truest match happened among the Final Three upon their return to the Philippines. Until this Friday’s Live Finale, it remained a big question as to whoever the jury favored.

Even program host Paolo Bediones was clueless of the results till the announcement of the last vote casted.

In the end, Amanda got four votes out of seven. She won the P3 million pot money, tax-free and the most prestigious title – Pinoy Sole Survivor.

Amanda plans to use her cash prize to build a house for her parents and to run a poultry farm in Mindoro.

Don’t miss the Survivor Philippines: Palau the Reunion this Sunday, November 15 on SNBO after Show Me The Manny.

Demi Lovato - "Remember December" Music Video and Lyrics

Watch Demi Lovato’s new music video for "Remember December."

"The music video relates to the song in a way that a girl has so much to say to the guy, and it feels like he’s not listening, and she wants him to remember everything that they had. And so instead of having a love interest in this video, it’s all about being fierce and kind of, like, taking control as a girl. It’s like girl empowerment. Yeah, divas!" Demi told MTV.

In the vid with the Demi are her pals Meaghan Martin, Chloe Bridges and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle.

Yeng Constantino Releases Her Third Album Titled "Lapit"

After her platinum-awarded albums namely, Salamat and Journey, Yeng Constantino is back to delight her fans and listeners once again after a break in the recording scene.

The Grand Star Dreamer of Pinoy Dream Academy Season 1 disclosed that for quite some time, she experienced writer's block—hindering her from composing songs. "Nagka-writer's block ako talaga. Ang tagal rin bago ako naka-recover. Sobrang pressured ako pagkatapos ng mga hit singles ko."

Yeng became apprehensive but she did not let anxiety take over her talent. One person who helped Yeng push through with her third album is Raimund Marasigan, former Eraserheads drummer and now, Sandwich's vocalist. "I was the one who asked Raimund to produce my next album. I am a big fan of his. He taught me how to have fun while still being serious on my career," Yeng enthused. "Natatahimik talaga ako kasi ang gaganda ng mga ideas niya."

Why the album title, Lapit?

She pointed out that her collaboration with Raymund has the approval and support of Star Records.. "Pinayagan naman ako ng Star Records. I asked my bosses and they allowed me to do this," Yeng shared. "Nakakatuwa nga, e. Ako gumawa ng lyrics nang mga kanta at si Kuya Rayms ang gumawa ng melody. Sobrang saya ko kasi dati-rati, nakikita ko lang siya sa MYX and akala ko dati, hanggang duon na lang yun. Now, si Kuya Rayms pa ang ka-collaborate ko sa album. Salamat salamat din sa Star Records kasi pinayagan nila ako..."

"Lapit" contains 10 tracks including Wag Kang Magtatanong, Jeepney Love Story, Pag Ayaw Mo Na, Siguro, Takas, Maghihintay, Wag Na, Akin Ka Na, and Siguro. With "Lapit" as its carrier single.

Lapit is now available in record bars nationwide under Star Records.

Critics Love GMA-7's Christmas Station ID 2009

A few days after GMA Network launches its 2009 Christmas Station ID, the TV plug quickly generated positive reviews from viewers who felt the real message of giving love this Yuletide Season.

The station ID dubbed, Sama-sama tayong Magpasalove, recognizes and celebrates the immense capacity of Filipinos to share love. It pays tribute to the lives of its audience and their hearts that continue to pass the love.

The TV plug, which features ordinary people sharing love in different situations, drew heart-warming comments particularly from some members of print media.

"I like the GMA Christmas Station ID because it has no pretention whatsoever. It didn’t bank on the stars, but on real people who are recovering from the calamities, which made it more effective and inspiring to really promote the essence of Christmas." - Joseph Gonzales,

"The GMA Station ID is a touching and riveting take on the real spirit of Christmas – giving love and sharing gifts to our fellow Pinoys. The exclusion of stars and celebrities leads the viewers to focus more on Christmas' message." - Glen Sibonga, PEP/Moviestar

"It is emotionally uplifting. It makes you realize that even in small gestures, one can give love. And what makes it more heart-tugging is the song. After hearing it and viewing it, you want to shower people with love." - Alwin Ignacio, Daily Tribune

"Simple and touching. The song fits the images as well." - Rohn Romulo, People's Balita

"Personally, gusto ko ang GMA Christmas Station ID. Touching, may puso, may kirot, and yet may mensaheng gustong iparating sa viewers. Punung-puno ng pag-asa. Feel na feel ang tunay na diwa ng Pasko kahit hindi malalaking artista ng Siete ang ginamit, nagmarka naman. Good idea and concept. Christmas is about love-sharing, forgiveness and being together with our loved ones." - Linda Rapadas, Bulgar

"I think it’s a good decision to focus on the ordinary people instead of celebrities, kasi sa pagtulong sa mga biktima ng bagyo, hindi kailangan ng celebrity-status." - Jeffrey Valisno, Business World

The Christmas station ID was directed by GMA AVP for Post Production Operations Division Paul Ticzon. Multi-awarded cinematographer and GMA VP for Post Production Ding Achacoso was the director of photography, Ingrid Navarro was the producer, Vince Gealogo was the assistant director and Rodell Cruz was the Production Designer. The post production pool was composed of Allyn de Ocampo, Javier Delgado, and John Paul Arrojado.

The project was conceptualized by the creative team composed of GMA VP for Program Support Regie Bautista, Associate Creative Director Armie Herrera, Writer Sarah Manila, Writer-lyricist Candy de los Reyes, Artists Leo Alvarado and Manuel Edralin, Senior Project Manager Hasmin Marable, and Project Manager Minette Lopez. The music was by Cecille Borja and sung by the La Diva member Aicelle Santos.

Check out Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester’s new music video "Somebody To Love" featuring R&B crooner Robin Thicke.

The music vid was directed by Zoe Cassavetes and also features Laker Girl Vanessa Curry and one of Leighton’s producers, Shahine Ezell.

Somebody To Love - Music Video and Lyrics:

Paris, France to Michigan
London town and through Berlin
I can’t believe this place I’m in
Everywhere and back again
Porcelain and China dolls
Give me one and I’ve seen them all
Got my back against the wall
Wonder where I’ll be tomorrow?

But wait, now how long could this take?
It’s hard to find a man,
When you’re gone before he wakes.
They say it’s hard to achieve
But can’t a girl believe?

(Chorus)
Is there somebody who still believes in love?
I know you’re out there
There’s got to be somebody
I search around the world
But I can’t seem to find
Somebody to love

(Robin Thicke)
Baby girl, there you at
Looking at me like a putty cat
Wondering where that thing is at
Wondering where your ring is at
Nobody ever did it quite like this
Nobody ever did it quite like you
Do your hair, I bought you shoes
We can hit the town like superstars do
You fall in love? Then let me show you love
Give me the key to your heart
I can give you what you want
When you’re waiting for love
And you’re lookin’ for someone
I’mma turn this gossip girl into a woman

[Chorus x2]

Je t’adore, Je t’adore (I love you, I love you)
Make a move, do the thing
Turn around, strike a pose
Je t’adore, Je t’adore (I love you, I love you)
Make a move, do the thing
Turn around, strike a pose
Ooh, I like it
Ooh, I need it
Ooh, I want it
Hey Hey

I know it’s hard to achieve
But can’t a girl believe?

[Chorus x2]

(You say hello, I say goodbye) x2
Somebody to love.

We could make a feast from these crumbs
And we’re all staring down the barrel of a gun
So if your life flashed before you, what would you wish you would’ve done

Yeah… gotta start
Looking at the hand of the time we’ve been given here
This is all we got and we gotta start thinkin’ it
Every second counts on a clock that’s tickin
Gotta live like we’re dying

We only got 86 400 seconds in a day
To turn it all around or throw it all away
We gotta tell ‘em that we love ‘em while we got the chance to say,
Gotta live like we’re dying

(Continued after the jump)
Well if you plane fell out of the skies
Who would you call with your last goodbyes
Should be so careful who we live out of our lives
So when we long for absolution, there’ll be no one on the line

Yeah… we gotta start lookin’ at the hand of the time we’ve been given here
This all we got and we gotta start thinkin it
Every second count on a clock that’s tickin
Gotta live like we’re dying

We only got 86 400 seconds in a day
to turn it all around or throw it all away
We gotta tell ‘em that we love ‘em while we got the chance to say,
Gotta live like we’re dying

Like we’re dying oh…
Like we’re dying
Like we’re dying oh…
Like we’re dying

We only got 86 400 seconds in a day
to turn it all around or throw it all away
We gotta tell ‘em that we love ‘em while we got the chance to say,
Gotta live like we’re dying

You never know a good thing until it’s gone
you never see a crash until its head on
All these people right when we’re dead wrong,
You never know a good thing till it’s gone

We gotta tell ‘em that we love ‘em while we got the chance to say,
Gotta live like we’re dying.

Pinoy Pound For Pound Boxing Champ Manny Pacquiao Covers Time Magazine

Then boxing greats Joe Louis, Max Schmeling, Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Frazier, Cassius Clay aka Muhammad Ali.

And now Manny Pacquiao.

The Filipino ring icon is the latest fighter to make it to the list of professional boxers to be featured in the cover of well-respected magazine Time — and only the second non-heavyweight fighter to do so.

This also makes Pacquiao the first Filipino to grace Time's cover since former President and democracy icon Corazon Aquino, who was named the magazine’s "Woman of the Year" in 1986.

Apart from heavyweights Louis, Schmeling, Frazier, Ali and middleweight Robinson, other boxers who had made it to the magazine’s cover include heavyweights Jack Dempsey, Primo Carnerra, Gene Tunney and the controversial Mike Tyson.

In its latest Asia edition issue, Time pays homage to the General Santos City-based southpaw in a story titled "The Meaning of Manny," which branded the Filipino spitfire as "the latest savior of boxing."

The story delves into Pacquiao’s stature as the Philippines’ favorite son, his humble beginnings, recent ring accomplishments, among others.

The same magazine previously included Pacquiao in its list of 100 most influential people in the world, with former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis providing a brief write-up on him.

Pacquiao is set to collide with Puerto Rican bomber Miguel Cotto for a record seventh world title in as many weight classes. The fight, dubbed "Firepower," is scheduled on Nov. 14 (Nov. 15 in Manila) at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rihanna has premiered the music video for her latest single, "Wait Your Turn (The Wait Is Ova)," off her new album Rated R, out November 23rd.

The music video was shot in Washington Heights, New York City on October 16.

Wait Your Turn (The Wait is Ova) - Music Video and Lyrics:

It's just the way the game is played
It's best if you just wait your turn.

The wait is ova...(8x)

I pitch with a grenade...
Swing away if you're feeling brave

There's so much power in my name...
If you pop off in your seat
Steady I'm gonna do the wave

I'm such a such a lady
You don't have to be so afraid
Couse I got room up on my team
You can play but hold up.

It's just the way the game is played
It's best if you just wait your turn.

It's getting crowded over here...
But babe...the wait is ova!
Sometimes it takes a thousand tries to win
The wait is ova

Fumble dont't you fumble
That's a flag on the play
Babe if you don't wanna
Then you don't have to wait

But together we gon'be taking over
It's just the way the game is played
It's best if you just wait your turn.

So you don't wanna wait
I hate to hear-That's such a shame
Couse if you playing tight wears and no
diamond in my ears
Then you already under way..
I know you want to win and you wish I would let you in
Get in line over here
You can play but hold up

It's just the way the game is played
It's best if you just wait your turn.

It's getting crowded over here...
But babe...the wait is ova!
Sometimes it takes a thousand tries to win
The wait is ova

Fumble dont't you fumble
That's a flag on the play
Babe if you don't wanna
Then you don't have to wait
But together we gon'be taking over

It's just the way the game is played
It's best if you just wait your turn.

Baby put the work in like a champion
But the crowd is screaming with their hands way up
Couldn't be with no one else
You're the only way..........I WIN!

Baby got the whole world standing up
Damn I bet a pitcher took a chance on love
Baby love...the time is now
And now-The wait is ova!

The wait is ova (4x)
Just wait your turn
The wait is ova (4x)
Just wait your turn

It's getting crowded over here...
But babe...the wait is ova!
Sometimes it takes a thousand tries to win
The wait is ova

Fumble dont't you fumble
That's a flag on the play
Babe if you don't wanna
Then you don't have to wait

But together we gon'be taking over

It's just the way the game is played
It's best if you just wait your turn.

Just wait your turn
The wait is ova (4x)
